The Gadgets That Wowed'em At CES

The Globe and Mail has compiled a list of the hot gadgets from CES in Las Vegas and as expected there is a lot of 3-D action but what I didn't expect was a reborn Polaroid Instant camera! Also on the list is the Mint floor cleaning robot, tv on the iPhone, wireless charging, and a game controlling glove from Iron Will Innovations. Seems to me there must have been a lot of wow and equally as much deja vu going on in Vegas. Everything old is new again...

How To Recycle Your Old Gadgets

Many of us likely have an old PC kicking around the basement or last years cellphone occupying space in the junk drawer. If you are like most people you probably only give it any attention when you stub your toe on it or push it aside to find a rubber band.

Want to do something good for the environment and feel better about your space at home, but don't know how to safely dispose of those unwanted gadgets? Wired's Gadget Lab has taken the guess work out of it for us with their round up list of major companies and how their recycling programs work.

Weekends Made Easier With Batter Blaster?

Sunday mornings are often Pancake mornings at our house, simply because it's usually my turn to make breakfast and pan cakes are an easy solution. I often haul out the blender, slosh in the water and batter mix and spray the counter top with the flying doughy mixture. Now, at least in the western U.S., consumers have an easy alternative in "Batter Blaster"! It's pancake mix in a can reminiscent of Reddi Whip or spray on cheese and according to the website "Batter Blaster™ makes organic light and fluffy pancakes and light and crisp waffles in minutes!". Uncrate - A Geek's Guide to Everything Stylish

Alerted to a very cool website thanks to a link in someone's tweet (twitter post) yesterday. Uncrate, finds all the links that interest the geek, from gameboy bricks for your walkway to the Utilikilt for the Scottish geek who wants deep pockets to carry their gear, and doesn't mind a little draft down there... Uncrate covers gear, cars, style, body tech, and gadgets for your home (crib). According to the site "Uncrate is the No. 1 buyer's guide for men. We test and highlight cool items from cell phones to DVDs to cars. Five new products are added every week day for your perusal." I'm subscribing to the RSS feed now!

Another geeky shoppers guide!

If you've got a geek on your Xmas list and they happen to be into gaming, then Ars Technica is the place to go! The folks at AT have compiled a great list of this years must have games arranged by system and complete with reviews. My little tip, don't stop on your game system's page, keep going through to the 8 bit tie and USB beverage chiller... you don't have to be a gamer to be a geek, but it helps.

15 useful iGoogle gadgets

Web Worker Daily has compiled a nice list of it's 15 most useful gadgets. If you are like me, your homepage is iGoogle! I use a couple of tabs to manage my rss feeds and the Home tab has my Gmail gadget, a sticky note gadget, a picture of my cat, Google calendar, pacman, and some others. Web Worker Daily's list is a bit more productive and has opened my eyes to some nice tools that I'll be adding, like activity tracker and Document to PDF.

Google dangles carrot in front of gadget developers

In this release last week, Google has upped the ante on gadget development by offering developers an opportunity to tap into some cash for their efforts. Google Gadget Ventures is a program offering $5000 grants to developers who already receive at least 250,000 page views from the gadget and seed investment of $100,000 dollars to previous grant winners. To apply for a grant developers are asked to submit 1 page proposals while those interested in the seed money must submit business plans. Google says "Our hope for Google Gadget Ventures is to enable developers to grow and diversify the universe of gadgets in a profitable and sustainable way." Nothing motivates a developer more than cash... except maybe food and/or caffeine!
