Monkey-Pirate-Robot-Ninja-Zombie

There's a new game in town and you'll probably all flock to it like Farmville on a work PC. Introducing, via boingboing, Monkey-Pirate-Robot-Ninja-Zombie! It's a new variation on an old game, except with sound effects, and it goes something like this:

Monkey
* Monkey fools Ninja
* Monkey unplugs Robot
Suggested noise: ee-ee-eek!
Robot
* Robot chokes Ninja
* Robot crushes Zombie
Suggested noise: ex-ter-min-ate!
Pirate
* Pirate drowns Robot
* Pirate skewers Monkey
Suggested noise: arrrrr!
Ninja
* Ninja karate chops Pirate
* Ninja decapitates Zombie
Suggested noise: keeee-ah!
Zombie
* Zombie eats Pirate
* Zombie savages Monkey
Suggested noise: braaaaaaaaaainsss!

Now call me a traditionalist but I still prefer rock-paper-scissors-lizard-spock, although the sound effects are kinda cool!

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Released

The holiday season is officially underway with the release of what is expected to be this years blockbuster game, and maybe the biggest selling game of all time. Tuesday was the launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, the must have game for this holiday season. The fifth game of the console series has been highly anticipated and will likely show up under a lot of Christmas tress, if anyone can wait that long. The game industry however has not been immune to the global economic downturn as many believed it would be and is starting to feel the pain. Game developers are saying that they will be aiming for more spread out release dates in the coming year, rather than focusing solely on the holiday season. Most of us will be glued to the consoles and won't notice a thing, there is nothing like COD on an HDTV with the surround sound cranked!

Wii Owners Not Buying Games

With Nintendo Wii's in more than 20 million homes you would think that sales of software for the popular game console would be through the roof. The New York Times is however reporting that Wii game sales are not stellar and this is at least in part due to the demographic that the company targeted in selling the console. “The kind of person that buys a Wii is not the same kind of person that buys a PS3 or an Xbox,” according to John Greiner, the chief executive of Hudson Entertainment, “You have to be very specific when you design a game and target not only the gameplay mechanics for that user, but also the marketing for that kind of a product launch.” We've considered buying the Wii in our home but decided not to simply because of the game catalog, it just doesn't have the same appeal as the titles on available for our XBox 360...

Teen Creates Trading Card Game With Chemistry Theme

Wired's geekdad brings us the story of 14 year old Anshul Samar who, with the help of $500 in seed money from the California Association of the Gifted, created a prototype two-player card combat game. "The goal of the game is to reduce the opponents electrons to zero through strategic use of each card's chemical properties." The deck has 121 cards each representing a chemical element, compound or catalyst. Impressive! Keep your eye out for Anshul, I have a feeling this is not the last we've heard of this young man. The game Elementeo has a website here.

First Microsoft Surface Game

Here is a look at the first game developed for the Microsoft Surface PC, "Firefly" where the object is to coral more fireflies into your jar than your opponent. The video is a gizmodo find and was shot compliments of Sarcastic Gamer. You won't be wowed by the game play as it is pretty simple but consider the interactive nature of the interface and think of all of the possibilities! I love this device!

Another geeky shoppers guide!

If you've got a geek on your Xmas list and they happen to be into gaming, then Ars Technica is the place to go! The folks at AT have compiled a great list of this years must have games arranged by system and complete with reviews. My little tip, don't stop on your game system's page, keep going through to the 8 bit tie and USB beverage chiller... you don't have to be a gamer to be a geek, but it helps.

Gaming giants merge

Vivendi and Activision are joining forces to create what they call "the world's most profitable games business". Vivendi owns Blizzard who produces the immensely popular World of Warcraft online game while Activision is behind the Call of Duty and Guitar Hero franchises. Blizzard will invest $2 billion in the new company, while Activision is putting up $1 billion. The BBC has more details.

Ad supported video games - almost free!

Would you be willing to be subject to advertisements if it meant free gaming? Ubisoft is offering up 3 of it's popular titles to gamers in the US, valid Ubi.com members can receive Far Cry, Raving Rabbids, or Price of Persia: The Sands of Time that are ad supported and available at fileplanet. I'm in Canada, so I'll not be getting my freebie but I'm anxious to know how obvious and/or annoying the ads are. If you download one let me know in a comment. Credit Wired Game|Life blog.

There's nothing like a good marathon game of risk

While I do enjoy video games of all genres I also love to play board games, though I don't play nearly as often as I would like. Here is a site that I heard of while listening to commandN and I thought it was worth visiting, and now sharing. BoardGameGeek is an online community for those who love board games. There are reviews, articles, discussions and a marketplace for buying, selling and trading those hard to find or out of print games. Games are sorted by type and if you are looking for something other than monopoly you've come to the right place, not that there is anything wrong with monopoly! You won't find Doom or Gears of War but with the massive growing database of games and recommendations you are bound to find something to suit your gaming taste.
