PCWorld is reporting that Facebook has added an instant messaging service, though it is in limited release so you may not see it on your profile page. Facebook Chat is an instant messaging service that is tied to your facebook user name. According to the official Facebook blog "We'll be rolling this out slowly going forward, but fairly soon you'll notice our new Chat bar at the bottom of your browser—no installation or assembly required. From this bar you can view your list of online friends and open conversations with any or all of them." Chat is certainly not new but the feature is definitely a natural fit for the social networking site, it will definitely increase the sites stickyness!

In-flight e-mail and IM coming at last
JetBlue Airways Corp. is poised to start offering e-mail and Instant Messenger access to travelers, starting with one flight next week. The service will be free of charge and will be limited but it's a step that has been a long time coming. According to the Globe and Mail "General Web surfing and e-mail attachments won't be permitted because of bandwidth constraints, and services on laptops and handhelds with Wi-Fi wireless access will be limited to e-mail and messaging from Yahoo Inc." No surprise here but Research In Motion has gotten in on the action, "Passengers can check other personal and work e-mail — but only on two BlackBerry models that have Wi-Fi wireless capabilities"
Other US carriers are said to be getting their own services ready and plan to offer broader capabilities in fee based offerings.

IM studying!
A recent conversation with my 15 year old went something like this...
Me: "I thought you had to study? You have exams soon!"
Him: "I am studying!"
Me: "Then why is the instant messenger bleeping all of the time? Doesn't sound like studying!"
Him: "We have an Internet study group, we are asking each other question."
I slyly peek at the screen to reassure myself that he is actually studying...
Me: "Cool!"
