On Thursday Tesla Motors announced that it would build an electric sedan, the Model S, Southern California. The Model S has a base price of $49,900, after a federal tax credit of $7,500. According to CNN "... Tesla predicts it will manufacture 20,000 Model S vehicles a year. That would make it more of a mass-market vehicle than the Roadster; only 1,200 of which are produced yearly." The production line will not start until 2011 as Tesla struggles through the economic downturn but it's nice to know that the sedan is still in their plans.

Tesla Unveils New Roadster
The Tesla Roadster Sport was unveiled yesterday at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The Sport is the second production line vehicle for the electric car manufacturer and is said to be even zippier than the original, shaving .2 seconds off the zero to sixty mark of it's predecessor and coming in at 3.7 seconds. The Roadster Sport uses the same powertrain that will be used in the Model S, a four-door electric luxury sedan Tesla intends to start making in 2011.

Tesla Sports Car Hits The Street
Tesla Motors will open it's flagship show room in Los Angeles' tony Westwood neighborhood, where Beverly Hills, Brentwood and Hollywood intersect with a second store to open in a couple months near Tesla's headquarters in Silicon Valley's San Carlos. With a sticker price beginning at $109,000 and a 15 month delivery period the cars are not for everyone but reports have it that Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, actors George Clooney and Kelsey Grammer and musicians Will.i.am and Flea have all ordered Tesla Roadsters. The good news, I guess, is that "There's a model in the works right now, a five-passenger sedan that will be styled comparable to the roadster but a lot roomier to accommodate families, and that is slated for 2010," says Jeremy Snyder, head of client services for Tesla. CNN has more here.
